Matcha En in Champaign is a small but charming outlet with a neat, clean, and inviting layout. We visited on a quiet afternoon, and with only a handful of patrons around, it offered a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a leisurely treat. The menu is quite extensive, featuring everything from boba teas and fresh fruit teas to smoothies, hot drinks, floats, cakes, and puddings. We opted for the Oreo cake, which was served promptly and made for a pleasant accompaniment to our visit. This place came highly recommended by my daughter, who considers it one of her favourites, and I can certainly see the appeal. While it didn't completely wow me, it was nevertheless an enjoyable experience and one that my family thoroughly appreciated. Sometimes personal preferences play a significant role in how we perceive a place, and that may well be the case here. Had I been staying longer in Champaign, I would have loved to explore more of the menu. Still, I'm glad I stopped by and experienced something a little different. Discovering unique food and beverage concepts that aren't commonly available is always a highlight of my travels, and Matcha En certainly delivered on that front.

the baristas are always so kind! they direct us to the kiosks, and they’re always there if we have a question about anything, or they’re always ready to give us recommendations. the mango matcha latte is my favorite! it’s sooo good! i can definitely taste the matcha equally with the mango. i will say though, the mango flavor is more on the sweet side, so keep that in mind when ordering :)

I stopped by Matcha En near the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus and had a really good experience overall. (The other location is in Chicago’s Chinatown.) The space has a calm and inviting atmosphere, with soft lighting, instrumental music, and decor like a faux plant wall that adds to the relaxed vibe. There are plenty of seating options, including booths and tables, making it easy to sit and enjoy your dessert. It wasn’t busy when I visited in the late afternoon, so there was no wait to order or receive food. Ordering was simple with self-service kiosks (there were two available), and I appreciated being able to see pictures of the menu items. There’s also the option to order with a staff member. The menu itself offers a wide variety of desserts—almost a bit overwhelming, but great if you like having lots of options. I ordered the half ube/matcha soft serve (with the $1 upgrade), which came out to $9.50 after tax. The ube soft serve was probably one of the best I’ve had—rich in flavor and very smooth. Great customer service. I was looking for a cake to give to my two friends and they recommended the perfect gift which my friends loved. I also really like their cream puffs and strawberry float.

Finally got around to checking out Matcha En in Champaign, and it was my first time! The place is nice. It’s modern and clean (including the bathroom), which I always appreciate. We ordered a few things to try: the Ube Swirl tea, the Peach Passion Fruit tea, and another matcha drink. They were all good. The ordering process is also super efficient. You just use the kiosk to place your order and then pick up your drinks. They have a good selection beyond just tea, too, including ice cream, bubble waffles, and hot drinks. Definitely worth stopping by!
